About The Artist

  Mireille M. Marquis

Hello!

I have always been captivated by textiles, – the need to create with different fibers runs deep within my family history.

My Story
Let me tell you a bit about my journey and inspiration for Oceanside Fiber Studio.
Imagine an 8 year old girl – hand-stitching outfits for her dolls – using materials from her Mom’s pile of fiber remnants. That’s me….and fast forward a few years and I’m sewing clothes on an old Singer manual treadle machine.

Although I was fascinated with textiles, I pursued a career in the financial industry. Shortly after retirement an opportunity presented itself and I established a studio – Mermaid Fashion & Accessories. Returning to my roots felt great, I was energized with creativity, I rediscovered my passion for textiles. My studio specialized in creating unique ladies accessories for upscale boutiques.

Over the years my travels brought me to Vancouver Island, BC . This is where I was introduced to Tapestry Weaving and created Oceanside Fiber Studio. My favorite textiles to work with are Natural Cotton, Wool, Silk, Blends of Bamboo, Linen, Velvet, Synthetic Fur and a wide variety of embellishments.

On a more personal note, my brother Jean Yves who supported and encouraged my entrepreneurship as an artist died unexpectedly.  I truly believe an Angel delivered a message  – it gave me the inspiration to create Angels as a means to deal with grief, seek guidance and hopefully help others along the way.

Designing one of a kind Tapestry pieces and Angels provides me with inner peace and relaxation in a world of uncertainty.  Its a reflection of my personal interpretation of life.

It’s a reminder that life is precious.

Thank you for letting me share my story with you.

My artwork is sold in the Parksville & Qualicum Beach area.
Exhibited in the USA and Canada
